Web 2.0 Apps and Hackers
By Ks Ong
Nowadays, web 2.0 apps are gaining popularity in the world wide web. Some of the popular apps are Facebook, Google gmail, emusic, amazon, youtube, meebo. How hackers targetting and attack web 2.0 apps? By Web 2.0, developers are focusing on XML-scripted transactions. I think that's a fairly commonly accepted piece of the definition. Fundamentally, these are new collections of application capabilities for structured information or transaction exchange off a Web site. It's not just HTML anymore. Hackers can easily steal your valuable data like credit cards info via web 2.0 apps. We take facebook as an example, when we accepted an apps from facebook, means we have to accept their terms&conditions to allow the apps to collect our data, before we can really start using it. By doing this, in fact you are permitting the apps to gather your info. In site like myspace & youtube, there are significants amount of user contributed data. Hackers can easily embed malware in their content! This can be done easily. So, how to protect yourself against all these malware ? i think first you need to do is stop downloading from unknown source, if really need to download only get it from trusted source. Also, get yourself a copy of antivirus and enable it. -------------------------------------- Compare Web 1.0 & Web 2.0 Web 1.0 = Read Only, static data with simple markup Web 2.0 = Read/Write, dynamic data through web services
